Whitetail Deer Weather Tip
Every deer hunter knows that the weather has a dramatic effect
on the Whitetail deer.
Below are some facts:
- On warm summer days, deer feed during the first few hours of daylight and again after sundown
- In winter, tempertures above freezing have the same effect on deer as warm summer days. This
is due to their warm winter coats
- When the temperature falls from freezing to around 0 degrees, the deer will find sheleter,
sunny areas that are out of the wind
- Below zero tempertures cause deer to lose heat rapidly, resulting in loner feeding periods
- On windy days (above 15mph) deer remain in a constant alart status. This is because the wind
alters their ability to smell and hear danger
- Light rain, snow, and sleet do not affect deer behavior. They remain active during this time.
Heavy precipitation causes them to seek out some sort of protection
- During a full moon, deer may not feed until dark. During the new moon, deer may begin feeding
earlier because of the lack of light
